About

Anastasia Samoylova is the Russian-born, internationally exhibited artist working within photography, video and installation art. She holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Art from Bradley University. The subject of her work contributes to the contemporary discourse on political and ethical dilemmas related to food production with an emphasis on the issues of industrial agriculture and factory farming. Individual and collective memory, visual means of propaganda and advertising, and the theme of sustenance are among the complex layers interweaved in Anastasia’s work. The authentic form of Anastasia’s photographical work is derived from her graphic studies in Constructivist style at the Russian State University of Humanities in Moscow, where she received a MA in Design. Anastasia’s upbringing in Russia’s South during The Gorbachev Era made a strong impact on artist’s sensitivity to social and environmental impacts of food production. Images of flourishing kolkhozes, adoration of industry, saturated Soviet posters comprise Anastasia’s visual memory that reveals itself in her current work.
